FAVN Sofa by Jaime Hayon for Fritz Hansen

FAVN is the Danish name for embrace, but now it’s also a new sofa by Jaime Hayón for Fritz Hansen.

“I wanted the sofa to be based on a shell. A shell being hard on the outside, soft and welcoming on the inside,” explains Hayón. “I wanted to create a form that embraces you, something really organic — that’s why we named it FAVN.” FAVN will be available in ten color selections: light grey, sage green, clear beige, taupe, chocolate, moutarde, red, violet, dark blue and black.

The Shark Chair by René Holten for Artifort

At Salone del Mobile 2011, Artifort has presented the Shark, a new, extremely comfortable dining and meeting chair designed by René Holten. In designer’s words, “A model that acquired its name because its profile resembled that of the feared predator. However, you have nothing to fear from this shark. On the contrary, it’s an extremely comfortable chair to sit on. Sturdy with extra back support, a delightful chair for a long evening around the table, or for a productive meeting. The Shark gets its shape from a steel insert frame and a wooden seat that is then foam covered and upholstered. The shark is available with a 4-leg or sledge-base.”

Colourful Children’s Bathroom by Laufen

deal for use in nurseries, kindergartens and schools, these small-scale kid’s bathrooms are designed especially with little ones in mind. Imaginative, colourful and playful, what child wouldn’t want to use the florakids range from Laufen?

The rounded shapes, bold colours and influences from the animal and plant kingdoms give the florakids bathroom a feeling of fantasy and playfulness, which creates an environment perfect for kids to learn about hygiene.

The centrepiece is a washstand with a basin in the shape of a flower blossom, available in white, red or green. The range also features ceramic shelves, shaped like little clouds that can be used to complement the washbasin and they come in matching colours too. Mirrors are available in a red mirror flower design, or a green mirror caterpillar design whereby the mirrors can be lined up in series to create a comical caterpillar.

South Yarra House by LSA Architects

An extensive mixture of architectural styles characterizes this densely populated South Yarra street, from traditional pitched-roof weatherboard balconies to flat-roofed made block-work apartment structures. Narrow structures sit tightly side-by-side across the one-way street.

Light-filled spacious internal spaces maintain strong connections to the outside of your building and also the home’s multiple courtyards, clouding internal/exterior limitations.

Concentrating on volume, colour and sun light admission, instead of on applying costly materials, positively influenced the project budget. Use of colour towards the built form encourages the occupants to understand more about further implementation of colour through furnishings and artworks.
